The Van der Laan Sisters
In the elegant streets of Östermalm, Stockholm, Sweden, sisters Emilia and Jennie van der Laan were raised in a world shaped by music, movement, and global perspective. Surrounded by the timeless melodies of ABBA and Roxette, they developed an early connection to melody, emotion, and authenticity — elements that would later become central to their artistic identity.
Their childhood unfolded across continents, from Sweden to the United States, China, South Korea, Brazil, and across Europe, following their father’s international career. Despite constant shifts in culture and environment, music remained a constant — a universal language that grounded them wherever they lived.
Both Emilia and Jennie began their professional lives in front of the camera, building international careers as photo models. Yet behind the scenes, music continued to pull them forward. That shared passion eventually led them, together with producer Staviik, to establish Bejya Music — a creative foundation centered around emotional storytelling, cinematic soundscapes, and artistic independence.
This foundation became the starting point for their transition into electronic music, where they developed a sound rooted in vocal trance, progressive, and cinematic EDM. Over time, their artistic direction evolved toward a more refined and focused electronic identity, emphasizing emotional depth, atmosphere, and melodic clarity.
Today, their work is fully integrated into Northline Records B.M., which has taken over and expanded the original Bejya Music vision into a broader platform for electronic music and artist development. While Bejya Music no longer operates as an active label, its creative legacy continues to influence the sisters’ artistic direction and remains an important part of their journey.
In parallel, Bejya Motion Pictures, owned by the van der Laan family, continues to represent the visual and cinematic dimension of their creative world, supporting the aesthetic and storytelling elements that define their music and visual identity.
Today, Emilia and Jennie van der Laan stand as part of a new generation of Swedish melodic electronic artists — blending global influence with a distinctly Nordic sense of atmosphere and emotion.
Bejya represents the origin of their journey — a place where emotion, movement, and sound intersect, and where their artistic identity first took shape.
“We’ve lived everywhere, but music has always been our home.”
“Music is our way of sharing that journey.”
